Fostered and Adopted Children and Families at Brunswick

Supporting Adopted and Fostered Children at Brunswick

At Brunswick Primary School, we are committed to supporting all children to thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally. We recognise that adopted and fostered children may have experienced early life challenges, and we work closely with families to provide the care and consistency they need to feel safe and succeed in school.

What We Do to Support Your Child:

  • Designated Teacher: We have a dedicated teacher responsible for supporting adopted and fostered children and coordinating with families, social workers, and the Virtual School.
  • Trauma-Informed Approach: All staff are trained in attachment and trauma-informed strategies to help children feel secure, build trust, and manage emotions.
  • Pastoral Support: Children have access to wellbeing support,  check-ins with key adults, and a safe, calm space when needed.
  • Inclusive Curriculum: We are mindful of topics such as family trees or baby photos, and we adapt lessons to reflect the diversity of family life.
  • Transitions and Belonging: We plan carefully for transitions—whether starting school, moving year groups or preparing for secondary school—offering extra support and visits if needed.
  • Pupil Premium Plus: If your child is eligible, we use this funding to provide personalised academic or emotional support, in partnership with you.
If you are a foster carer or adoptive parent and would like to discuss how we can support your child, please contact the school office to arrange a meeting with our Designated Teacher - Amanda Easton.
