Brunswick Primary School

Enjoy, Exceed, Excel

Chess Mates is an after-school club for pupils from Years 3-6, who want to play chess in a relaxed and informal environment. Each session we focus on a new skill, play mini games, solve worksheets and enjoy lots of matches.

Chess Mates for the Spring 2019 term is now fully booked.

  • Years 3 and 4 meet in the Junior Library on Wednesdays, 3.15-4.30
January 9th to April 3rd, excluding half-term week

  • Years 5 and 6 meet in the Junior Library on Mondays, 3.15-4.30
January 7th to April 8th, excluding half-term and the inset day on Feb 25th

As well as playing each other, we take turns to play against the computer. We use www.chesskid.com which provides a safe environment for playing online and has lots of articles and videos to help improve our game.

If you have any questions about the club, please email richardjames@brunswick.brighton-hove.sch.uk

"My child came home on a wave of enthusiasm after chess club last night. He even went to play chess with our next door neighbours before school this morning. I'm amazed and impressed."
